 So Glad To See You

New Update - 7/10/08:

Just a little update on Reagan.  We took her to clinic last Thursday (7-3) and left there for our family vacation to White Lake.  We noticed alot of brusing and come to find out her counts are extremely low.  There was a message from Chapel Hill when we got back.  Last month they were alittle low this time really low.  Please keep Reagan in your prayers.  Here are a few pictures of her from White Lake.

Reagan Allison isn't your average biker chick.

When the 3-year-old takes to her pink and purple Harley this Saturday, it will be to cheers from the dozens of riders in the second annual "Tricky" Ricky Shambley Memorial Ride. Last summer, Reagan was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. August will mark the end of her first year of chemotherapy. She has two more to go.Proceeds from Saturday's ride will go to Reagan's family to help pay for her treatment. Wendy Allison, Reagan's mother, said times have been tough but have brought the family together. Worried about the germs she'd be in contact with at day care, Reagan's grandmother left her job as a teacher's assistant at E.M. Holt Elementary School to keep the child during the day. "That was a big sacrifice for her to make. She lives paycheck to paycheck just like everybody else," Wendy Allison said. "I'm just taking it one day at a time. As long as Reagan is OK, I'll be fine."

Doug Shambley began the event last year in memory of his brother, Ricky Shambley, who died of cancer in 2006. "He never had any kids but he loved kids. He was really good with them," Shambley says. "He got cancer suddenly. A lot of people knew him Shambley contacted Elon's Relay for Life team to determine a beneficiary for this year's ride. Last year's memorial ride raised $5,000 for Samantha Harvell's treatment. Harvell, a teenager, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma two years ago.

Just a little update about Reagan:

We went to clinic two weeks ago and her counts were a little low, but she is doing well.  Once a month she takes steroids for five days and she just came off of them.  This time they seemed to be different.  She has seemed more sensitive.  She cries at nothing.  Hopefully they will soon be out of her system and she'll be the happy little girl she usually is.

We took the kids to White Lake for the weekend and we had a wonderful time.  They love it there.  We have a place at Camp Clearwater and it is wonderful for them.

Please remind everyone about the Benefit Gospel Singing June 28th at First Baptist Church in Gibsonville.  Hotdog supper starts at 4:00 to 5:30 and the singing is from 6:00 to 8:00.  The hotdog supper is free and we hope to have a great turnout.  A love offering will be taken up at the singing for Wendy and Reagan.  Also, we want everyone to continue praying for Reagan and our family.  It's harder on us than it is on her.

May God Bless,

Vanessa (Gee)

Relay For Life 5/16/08:

Just to let you know that last night at the "Relay for Life" event it was wonderful!! We had never been and really didn't know what to expect.  We were so touched by all the participation. Team Reagan had alot of family and friends there and we just hung out!  Reagan had a wonderful time. Reagan and Anna lead the survivors behind the Police Color Guards to the rhythm of "Put a Little Love in Your Heart", around the track for the "Survivor's Lap". It was so amazing! Anna is a 3 year old who was diagnosed when she was 9 months old.  "She is cured!!!"

The band peeked their interest and
the kids began to dance and have fun.

You wouldn't believe the kids dancing, walking, playing, eating and
just have a great fellowship with each other.  It seemed like one happy family.
Hat's off to the sponsors, volunteers, city of Burlington Parks and Recreation, the Band, and to everyone involved.  I saw so many of my student friends from E.M. Holt and alot of them have moved on to Southern Middle and High School, but they remembered me with hugs.  I love them all so much!  There were not only students, but teachers, parents and lots of old friends there.  It was just totally wonderful.

Love and prayers,
Vanessa (Gee)
